On Saturday, Feb. 17th, Dennis and Elizabeth Kucinich are visiting Connecticut. After a press conference in Westport, they'll be at the UConn Storrs campus, where I'll have the honor of meeting the Kuciniches and interviewing Dennis live on WHUS, the campus radio station, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. EST. (I've prepared a list of what I hope are intelligent, substantive questions.) Following the interview is an 8:00 meet-and-greet in the Student Union lobby.
If you'd like to catch the interview live, you can log on to the station's webcast at whus.org. Just thought some of y'all might be interested. |

The most annoying thing about Dennis K. during the pres. primaries of the 2004 election cycle was that I found myself agreeing with about 90% of what I heard him say. And he kept on saying it , and saying it....
He does keep a number of key issues at the forefront of the national debate. |

Short memory, huh? That little POS aligned himself with the DLC to "kill" Dean in case you forgot. He's another little backstabbing phony who talks big. Wasn't this site a Dean site at some point? Arent' we in Congress because of Dean?

QUOTE(lojasmo @ Feb 17 2007, 11:49 AM) Right. DK tossed his support to Kerry during Iowa, then STAYED IN the primaries after Dean got fucked. Woot, DK. Not quite. He worked out a deal with Edwards, not Kerry. Any caucus where either JE or DK might not be viable, the candidate who had more supporters was supposed to get the other's peoples' support. I suspect that the deal worked out in Edwards' favor and contributed to his second place finish. A number of folks (especially Koochniks with stars in their eyes) were shocked to see DK acting like a real-life politician instead of a (non-violent) knight in shining armor. -------------------- Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

QUOTE(Capn Sunshine @ Feb 15 2007, 05:52 PM) ps Elizabeth Kucinich: total babe. ![]() Generally I prefer to address substance rather than image. Aside from not being very tall, (considered by some a drawback), the image projected here is of genuine midwestern decency, intelligence, look-you-in-the eye honesty, and neighborliness. And the obvious affection and respect between the married couple gives them a sort of perpetual newlywed glow--at least in this photo. Family values, folks! With respect to issues around "image," or anything else for that matter, I think that the 'Inside-the-Beltway' crowd and the New England elitists are not in the best position to understand the outlook or needs of people in states with large numbers of rural voters. In the larger cities in places like Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Idaho, and so forth, the rural ethos permeates even the city life and whole community perspective there. These people have a low likelihood of voting for someone from Massachusetts, or New England in general, even if the candidate is mostly OK, because of the perceived intellectualism and elitism. Neither of those are necessarily bad per se, but the implied condescension really irritates a lot of people. If a candidate can show common sense and pragmatism, and be plain-speaking and quite intelligent without conveying that certain nuanced intellectualism, that candidate may have a shot in the national elections. It seems that DK meets and exceeds the standards I describe here. Personally, I don't feel committed yet to any one of the major Dem candidates, but that is because we have about a half dozen pretty good options so far (DK, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Richardson, and ?). I'm NOT looking for either an impossible perfection or the perfect agreement of a candidate with every one of my beliefs. |

Yes, you have a point, especially if we consider the popular vote. But speaking of numbers, how does that play out in the electoral college system? And, do rural citizens turn out to vote in higher, lower, or about the same percentages as city folk?
Keeping in mind, the people I know from midwestern states or rural towns tend to have strongly held convictions. So does that translate into actually getting out to vote? |
